You can place it on a bare table in order to show off the nice wood work. If you use it like this, make sure to add some place mats in order not to leave burn marks on the wood.

When you use it alongside a tablecloth, you will need to make sure that the colors, patterns and textures complement each other. Considering that the runner has floral prints, it is advisable to use a plainly colored cloth, especially one with the same color as the flowers. You can however also choose to use different colors. In this case, you will need to make sure everything else is plainly colored, in order for your setting not to look too loud.

The specific fabric you choose is very important. It will determine the longevity of the item, as well as how regularly it can be used. Things made from cotton tend to be hardy, and can be used for long. Satin or silk items on the other hand, are a bit more fragile and this may limit how often you use them. Different designs will also look better on certain fabrics, than on others.

The length of these runners depends on personal preferences. Most people prefer, that they are the same length as the cloth underneath it. If you have children or pets in the house, then it might be advisable to get something a bit short to avoid accidents.

Some years back, these items were used in formal settings. In this era you are allowed to use them however you please. This can be draping them on your coffee table, buffer table, dining table or anywhere else. You can also choose a festive pattern which will be used at specific times, or something a bit more general. The shape of the table should also not limit the use.

If you plan to buy a vintage runner, make sure to properly asses it. The seams should be intact and the fabric should not have any holes be they form burn marks or moths. This will guarantee that you buy a good quality item. If the damaged area is small you may opt to get your tailor to repair it. You should however ask to get a discount from the person selling it.

When buying vintage items, make sure that the person selling them to you is reputable. This guarantees that you are not buying poor quality, or stolen items. You may choose to shop for the goods online, but locate as store that will refund your money if the item does not meet your standards. You should also check the credibility of the store.
