Learn About The Huge Benefits Of The Overmolding Process

By Patricia Nelson

Adding a layer of material over an existing part can significantly improve its performance. For instance, if you have a product with a screw, adding a T-handle would simplify the task for the customer to turn it. In such a case as this, the screw is molded and the material can either be mechanically or chemically attached without additional pieces to make the T-handle. This process is possible through overmolding. This process improves performance on products and increases the durability of the finished products.

The process of adding a molding over a product creates more options on the product. The surface of the product can be changed through different texture, color, and still, important components can be added for a particular client. Depending on the material, the surfaces can either be roughened or smoothened. Also, you can create a spongy surface to improve comfort or a strong surface to improve the durability of the product.

Additionally, molding on a product is crucial since you can add details to a product for a particular consumer. For example, when you add a handle on a screwdriver you improve comfort to the person using the device. To improve the grip on the handle, it can be made of varying thickness and texture. On the other hand, the handle may have a bright color such that it can be found easily. Again, the over-mold can be used to smoothen corners and sharp edges to prevent injuries to the user.

As with any manufacturing process, adding a mold on a product must be done in an expert manner. This ensures that the product provides benefits to the user. Taking plastics as an example, adhesives are not used a clear indication that precision must be observed. Also, no gaps should be left when sticking a rigid part with a pliable one since it would compromise its integrity. In fact, any slight imbalance between the pieces would result in a distorted product.

In a world that is growing at a high rate today, more people are using personal devices. This means that these people would also demand a higher level of integrity and comfort from those products. This comfort and integrity is achievable by creating molding on such products. As a result, the process has become an important feature in the production sector.

The process of creating a mold over products benefits both the manufacturer and the consumers. They are able to choose from different colors and styles. Different textures also make the hand-held products comfortable and increases ease during use.

Safety is another important benefit obtained by molding on a product. The material used can create insulation from electric shock, and can as well be placed on sharp edges to prevent injuries to the user. Still, the overlaid material can increase the durability of the device since it keeps the device from water or dust. In the case of vibration, the material acts as a shock absorber.

Generally, the molding process in overlaying material on products has brought important developments in the plastic industry. Various applications in many industries such as medical, safety and military have been streamlined and modernized through the molding process on products.
