Fresh Seafood Online Is A Great Buy

By Carolyn Anderson

One of the jewels of the sea is its abundant resources, especially when it comes to food. Many people buy their seafood from a local grocer, but those could have been sitting around for days before you actually buy them. If you want really fresh fish but live nowhere near the ocean, you should buy fresh seafood online to get the freshest catch shipped directly to your front door.

Most major grocery stores have a seafood counter that allows you to buy the fruits of the sea. The problem with these counters, though, is that sometimes that fish has been sitting for days waiting to be sold. Most online stores pack and freeze the seafood when it is still very fresh, preserving the just caught taste for you.

Some people would not think to order fresh groceries online, because they are afraid they would go bad during shipping. The good news is these online ordering companies pack the fish with plenty of ice packs in a cooler, so everything gets to still frozen. You will not have to worry about melting or food poisoning.

Generally, your order is packed and shipped with a few days. Once it is shipped, it should only take a day or two to get to you. That is, unless you order on the weekend. Weekend orders are generally not packed or shipped until Monday, so that it can be delivered in a timely manner. This is because may carriers will not deliver packages on a Saturday, and there is no mail on Sunday, so to avoid your seafood being left on a hot truck somewhere, it will not pack or ship till at least Monday.

The great thing about ordering online is that you can get just about anything that comes from the sea. In fact, you can buy whole fish with scales and bones intact. Some people buy these to save money, since they generally cost less than their deboned counterparts. Others just like to boil the heads and bones down for seafood stock. Whatever the reason, you can buy whole fish easily.

They may cost a little more than whole fish, but you can order cuts that have already been cleaned and boned. These are ready to cook and eat with no other prep necessary. You can order with or without the skin on, depending on which kind of fish you are ordering and how you want to prepare the fish.

In addition to regular fish, shellfish are another big draw for online buyers. There are oysters and scallops that have already been shucked and are ready to cook. During certain seasons, lobster and crabs can also be purchased. Shrimp are available all year of various sizes.

In addition, most sellers have at least a few prepared dishes that you just have to pop in the oven or microwave to heat through. This is a huge time saver, and makes for an impressive spread of food when you have guests over.
